Udang  Asam (Asam Prawns) Recipe

 Ingredients

  • Prawns (large, trimmed &  unshelled) - 600 grams

  • Turmeric powder - 1 teaspoon

  • Tamarind paste - 3 tablespoons

  • Dark soy sauce - 1 teaspoon

  • Sugar and salt to taste

  • Water - 2 tablespoons

  • Cooking oil - 3 tablespoons

 

Method

  • Add tamarind paste with 2 tablespoons of water leave it for 5 minutes, squeeze to mix well and drain liquid with a colander.

  • Marinate prawns with  turmeric powder and tamarind juice for at least 3 hours in a fridge.

  • Heat 3 tablespoons of cooking oil in a frying pan, pan fry with medium heat until prawns turn brown.

  • Season with sugar and salt, continue to fry until prawns become slightly burnt.

  • Serve with rice or nasi lemak (rice cooked with coconut milk) and sambal.
