Electrical appliances
- Do not handle switches with
wet hands. Always place a dry towel over the switch to turn it on or
off even you don't have time to dry your hands.
- Unplug all unused appliances and mount electrical cords
and wire high on hooks. Do not overload electrical outlets.
Cooking
- Loose clothing catches fire
more easily, always roll up sleeves before cooking, particularly
if it is windy.
- To prevents children from
pulling down the hot pot, turn pot handles to the back of the
stove. This can also reduces the odds of an adult knocking over
a pan, especially in narrow kitchens.
- Microwaves generate a
tremendous amount of heat in a soup and liquid even if the bowl
handle remains cool. Be very careful when remove the lid from
containers to make sure the steam is released away from you,
this can prevent scalds and burns. Use a lid with tiny
hole so the vapor can escape to prevent steam buildup.
Storage
- As soon as you have washed and
dried kitchen knives, scissors or peelers. them, you have to
store them safely so that children cannot reach them easily.
- keep dish cloths and paper
towels at least three feet away from the stove because these
items can catch fire easily.
Maintenance
- A fire extinguisher should be
kept at a place that can easily access to and family members
should know how to use it. Smoke detectors can be useful in
detecting fire early but you have to check the battery regularly
to ensure the device is working. Always have a fire escape plan
for your family.
