This appetizing dish looks very
good at a dinner party and it is also easy to prepare, leaving the
cooking time to relax.
Ingredients
- sirloin steak - 400g/14 oz,
trimmed of extra fat
- freshly boiled rice - 1kg/2¼ lb
7 cups
- oil - 30ml/2 tbsp
- black pepper and salt
- mild onion - 1 large
- parsley - 30ml/2 tbsp, chopped
- red pepper - seeded
- Worcestershire sauce - 30ml/2
tbsp
- butter - 30ml/2 tbsp
- tomato ketchup - 60ml/4 tbsp
For the garnish
- bunch of watercress
- red peppercorn - a few
(optional)
Method
- Cut the red pepper and onion
into slices.
- Heat 15ml/1 tbsp oil to fry the
onion until golden, then add black pepper and salt, set aside.
- Heat butter and oil (15ml/1 tbsp
each). Cook the steak over a high heat until it browned on both
sides, and cut it into bite-size pieces and set aside. If you
prefer the steak well-done, cook for 1-2 minutes on a moderate
heat.
- For the sauce, mix the
Worcestershire sauce, tomato ketchup in the pan with 30ml/2 tbsp
water to the cooked steak. Stir over a moderate heat for 1
minutes, mixing in the meat residue.
- Mix the remaining butter and the
parsley into the hot rice. Top the rice with red pepper, steak and
onion, then pour over the sauce. Garnish with red peppercorn and
watercress. Serves 4.
