Sour Brinjal Recipe (Chattpatta Began)

     Ingredients

  • Round brinjal (small) - 300 grams

  • Onions (chopped) - 5 pieces

  • Cumin seeds (roasted) - ¼ teaspoon

  • Large tomato (chopped) - 1 piece

  • Large green chili (chopped) - 1 piece

  • Mango powder - ¼ teaspoon

  • Chili powder - 1 teaspoon

  • Garam masala - 1 teaspoon

  • Yoghurt - 5 tablespoons

  • Coriander leaves (chopped) - 1 tablespoon

  • Cooking oil - 2 tablespoons

     Mix spices

  • Mango powder - 1 teaspoon

  • Chili powder - 1 teaspoon

  • Cumin powder - ½ teaspoon

  • Garam masala - 1 teaspoon

  • Salt - ½ teaspoon

  • Cooking oil - 2 teaspoons

     Method

  • Mix mango, cumin and chili powder, garam masala and salt in a bowl. Cut brinjal into 4 sections then rub mix spices inside of the brinjals. Heat oil in pan then pan-fry the brinjals until brown and set aside.

  • Heat oil again and stir-fry cumin for a while then add chopped onions and stir-fry until soft and brown.

  • Add tomato, ginger, green chili, chili powder, mango powder, garam masala and mix well. Add salt to taste.

  • Turn to low heat and add little amount of water. Add yoghurt in and mix the dish well.

  • Add brinjals in, stir gently to mix well and dish up. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve.
