Stir-fried Beef and Broccoli Recipe

This spicy stir-fried beef can be served with noodles or rice for a speedy, easy and delicious Chinese meal.
 

      Ingredients

  • beef - 350g

  • fresh ginger - 1 in, cut into strips

  • broccoli - 350g. cut into  small florets

  • garlic - 1 clove

  • spring onion - 4, sliced diagonally

  • carrot - 1, cut into matchstick strips

  • Chinese rice wine - 2 tbsp

  • cornstarch  - 1 tbsp

  • brown sugar - 2 tsp

  • sesame oil - 1 tsp

  • beef stock - 1/2 cup

  • soy sauce - 2 tbsp

  • spring onion  - to garnish

  • noodles or rice - to serve

      Method

  • Trim the beef and cut into thin strips, and toss in the cornstarch to coat thoroughly.

  • Heat sesame oil in a frying pan, add the beef strips and stir fry over a brisk heat for 3 minutes. Remove and set aside.

  • Add the spring onions, ginger, broccoli, garlic, carrot, and stock to the frying pan.

  • Cover and simmer for 3 minutes, then uncover and cook, stirring, until all the stock has reduced entirely.

  • Mix the brown sugar, soy sauce and rice wine and add into the pan with the beef. Cook 2-3 minutes and stirring continuously.

  • Spoon into serving dish, garnish with spring onion. Serve on a bed of noodles or rice. Serves 4.
